I saw a few forum posts and such for this M M O guls thing and the people making them claim to be linked to SGW. An article at TTH today talked about it, too. Basically it's like a multi-level marketing scheme of some sort disguised as a social network for gamers.

I wonder if there's an official word from CME on this. If CME is not involved in this scheme I would think they'd definitely want to come out and say so. If they are, that's another story...

How many ways can you say "REALLY BAD IDEA?"

EDIT: Really weird! The forum censors the word M M O guls (without the spaces). Is that a good sign or a bad one? lol

CME has outright deleted their posts.

This I know for fact, as I posted in one of the threads, warning potentially scammed people (and harassing the OP, getting him to as much as admit his transgression).

The fact that it's censored is a positive thing, it means that the website cannot be linked to, preventing people from being scammed.

One doesn't need someone to tell them that they're getting into a Ponzy Scheme.

CME has PM'd command leaders, warning them about this, as they've sent some command leaders this, trying to get them to sign their commands up.

Thanks for the info. I was hoping that the censorship was done for that reason.

I hope CME publishes a statement on this sooner rather than later before it gets out of hand. These guys (the scammer people, not TTH) are getting out of hand with their posting and stuff. They seem to have gone a long way to try and make this sound legit.

I don't know about you, but I consider it the job of sites like TTH to publish news, even if it's news you don't happen to like. No one at TTH that I can see said anything to make CME look bad--the article was just a sort of "WTF is up with this?"

If there is a connection, then that is bad news, IMO. But I don't see where TTH said that there was a connection. They just questioned the scam.

But, Davryn, there never seems to be any good news coming from TTH about the game. Maybe thats CME's fault because there hasnt been anything really to report on recently. They should start releasing more info on classes or combat or something to take our little minds off all the bad news lately

I do have a friend at TTH. No problem admitting that. But I'm not a spy.

I know the people are not anti-SGW. They have no reason to be. Covering MMOGs is their bread and butter, right? So if a MMOG is failing, they lose out on a potential source for articles, discussion, etc. And seriously, the people at TTH are all gamers--I don't think any of them want to see SGW fail any more than the rest of us do.

It seems like people here have it out for TTH. Maybe it's a case of projection?

Not so much projection as it is a matter of lessening respect. TTH should have known a lot better than to regurgitate someone else's article without doing proper journalist research.

A while back when us moderators began to see this spam. We decided it'd be best to add "m m o guls"(no spaces) to the word filter. As far as we know, it's a scam/spam/whatever you want to call it site. Since then adding it to the word filter here, the spammers haven't been back.
