Question my plea to CME

To all the lucky souls involved in the production of SGW,

I would like to say that i am extremely excited about the Stargate Worlds MMO game, and wish you all the best for production.

Please forgive my eagerness I would like to ask you a question,
The Stargate comminuty has been let down by another game developer that was commisioned to create us (the stargate fan community) a video game, that has recently been canned. I don't wan't this to happen again. I think the MMO has great potential to be a success, but I don't want you to lose sight of the fans expectations for a game. We expect the game to be true to the Stargate series, and to be of quality that is going to give us many hours entertainment that will compliment our viewings and love of the series.
From what i have seen from the concept art I have some concerns that the direction and ideas which have been presented (i know it is only concept art but i am going to say this anyway), does not really seem true to the series. For example the Jaffa picture . We don't want to play a game where we can't relate to the SG-1/Atlantis characers/universe. We want to actually fall into a world where we can be the heroes and recognise characters and scnarios as our heroes do. Example a battlefield of Jaffa with armour as if it were in the series would be cool, but it wouldn't be stargate like if the Jaffa were as in your concept art.
Next the Stargate on the sort of pedestall it does not seem tangible for human travel like in the series.
So now to the actualy question and plea -
Q)Are you very knowledgable of the Stargate series? how true to the series do you intend to be? Do you anticipate that we recognise this game truly as the Stargate universe and not customised, such as the concept art?
P)If you are ever unsure about anything to do with story lines, character interaction, costumes, or how the series' unique special effects are done (basically anything that could alter recognition/relationship with the series), to PLEASE consult with the show production team and the fans, because i truly believe that if everyone can work together - this project will really take off!

Thanks for your time,

OZJAD

I apologise if i am being a bit critical so early on in preproduction, but I want this game to really exceed all of our widest stargate gaming dreams.

The mmo is only based on the series, it will most likely not be a copy of the series.

I like the fact that it might not be the exact same thing as the show, because then we will actually be able to enjoy parts of the SG universe that we have not seen in the show yet.

We will be able to write our own history and also become heroes of our own. Would kinda suck if we entered the game and before we can actually do anything SG-1 swoops in and cleans up the place

Considering the fact that they are making a mmoRPG not a mmoFPS, equipment will be a part of this theme (the RPG one). Wich will most likely lead to Jaffa and SGC personal looking different then what they do in the show.

The way gates are placed, all depends on the planet right? We have seen many different versions in the show, some that they cant even travel through. Guess we might see that in the game aswell.

well i suppose the gates have been on the planets for a long long time so anything coulda happened to tht part of the gate the wall may have eroded over time and crumbled away but still does tht mean on the mmo earth has no intel of whats throu the gate and so this leads me to ask will their be M.A.L.Ps? not sure howed theyed work on the game but still and with the whole jaffa thing i do see what he means if its taking place when the jaffa are a free ppl because oviously they would want to upgrade their technology so i do see how tht could work so i take back my previous statment but i still think it has to be true to series so nuthing to far fetched

Default The concept artwork, so far....

Fear not. We are big fans of SG-1 and Stargate World will very much follow the look and feel of the TV show. We already know what that looks like, and already have full access to all of Bridge Studio's (the creators of the show) concept artwork and reference material. As Art Director, I need concept artwork to explore beyond the show and explore the boundries of what is possible.

Production has already started on game assets that are patterned directly after the show, and so far, I am pleased with what I am seeing.

We'll get you shots of that in the coming months! Now. Back to work.....

Fingers crossed for dedicated roleplay servers like WoW has, and PVP ones for those who don't like the roleplay aspect.

Well don't exclude the pvp aspect from the rp server. I love to rp it makes the game more enjoyable, but pvp can not, I say again CAN NOT be excluded!

Rp-servers also contains fewer idiots and leet-speakers, and the people on those servers are often older and more mature. So rp servers are a must have

I think the idea of team PVP is great. I've played it on DAoC and WOW, and when it is done correctly, it's a blast! And I prefer RP servers as well. Nothing breaks the spell of a game than to see some guy walk up to you named "SpeedyJafakiller" or something like that.

it might be a good idea to have like a few planets in each server that are PVP and others that arnt (Etc) as for role play then that takes up a server on its own, for the pvp thing you dont really need its own server, just planets. and the option to go pvp any were and fight any one else that is pvp at that time, (like in MXO)

Default A bit about the gate

Just wanted to respond to the first post, with regards to the gate. Stu is very correct that we're all fans of the show, and will be working very hard to ensure that the game is faithful to the show, but also accomplish the goal of expanding on that universe, and offering the player more.

That image of the planet with a base and stargate is a bit misleading. You can see a ramp from the gate, and DHD, but the team walking away from the gate appears on the back side, giving the impression they emerged that way.

In the game, we will try to have all gates uniquely mounted. This is something the show cannot afford to do, so we see the common stone stairs very often.

The gate, however, is a primary mode of travel. So, everywhere it's located, it will need a clear approach, and large ramp. That is... of course... if the gate is fully functional.

Its way to early to say how things will work in the game. What you see is concept art, not screenshots. They still have a lot of work to do.
